If your Kitchen refrigerator makes strange noises you haven’t observed before, it’s very important to take some time to look into the source of the noise. Nothing is more aggravating than a noisy refrigerator and you want to identify whether it may be a major and costly issue.
Defective Condenser Fan Motor
There could be something trapped in the motor blade, or the condenser fan motor bearings could be defective. The condenser fan motor is typically located below the refrigerator at the back. Pull the fridge out from the wall and unload the rear access panel to reach it.
Faulty Fan Blade
When the refrigerator is too loud, specifically when one of the doors is not closed, it could be the evaporator or condenser fan blade is faulty. Examine the evaporator fan blade in the freezer at the back panel. Adjust it by hand. When the fan blade does not turn properly, see to it if the blade is hitting something or if something is trapped in the blade. Furthermore, check the condenser fan blade at the backside of the fridge to identify if something blocks.
Broken Evaporator Fan Motor
If the evaporator fan motor in the refrigerator at the back of the rear panel breaks, it usually makes loud sounds. This noise will be much worse if the fridge door is not closed. If the evaporator fan is too loud, change it.
Damaged Compressor
When the sound is emanating from the compressor, it could be damaged inside. Its internal components can become worn over time producing louder sounds than normal. The compressor is typically located below the fridge near the back. Move the refrigerator away from the wall and take the rear panel out to reach it. Compressors usually last for several years after they make loud sounds. But when the compressor makes an odd noise, know that it will probably fail. The compressor must be changed by an expert technician.
Poor Water Inlet Valve
Once your fridge is noisy or loud, especially when the ice maker is loading, the water inlet valve could be poorly functioning. The water inlet valve is designed to facilitate the supply of water to the fridge dispenser and ice maker. As time passes by, mineral deposits can build up inside the valve and block the water flow. When the water inlet valve is making a loud noise, change it. Do not take the risk to fix the water inlet valve taking the valve to pieces can result in the valve breaking down.
